What skills do you need to be a delivery driver?

At Driver Express, we value hard-working employees who are passionate about delivering excellent customer service. But that’s not all.

  1. Excellent time management. Your reliability and good time management keeps things running smoothly as you deliver packages within your community.
  2. Passion for driving. While not essential, appreciating your time on the road can make the job more enjoyable. With most of your day spent driving, having a genuine passion for driving will not only make your job more satisfying but also keep you motivated.
  3. Good communication skills. When you’re not driving, you’ll likely be interacting with customers, dispatchers, and team members – and being friendly, professional and clear makes all the difference.
  4. Independent problem-solving skills. Delivering packages isn’t always straightforward – roadblocks, traffic jams and hard-to-find addresses can stand in your way. So, you’ll need to be able to think fast and find solutions to delivery schedules.
  5. Physical stamina. Delivery driving can be a physically demanding job. You need to be able to carry, load and unload parcels weighing up to 23 kg and navigate stairs.

Delivery driver job responsibilities

Every day as a delivery driver can be an adventure on the road. Many of our drivers enjoy the peace and quiet of their van or listening to their favourite podcast.

From loading up your van to making timely deliveries, you’ll play a key role in keeping things moving smoothly. It’s more than just driving – you’ll provide great customer service by greeting and interacting with customers, put yours and the safety of others first by adhering to all road safety regulations, get to know your community and use the latest tech to navigate your route and track deliveries.
