One of the many joys of being a delivery driver is having the complete freedom to choose whatever you want to listen to on the stereo or streaming device in your vehicle.
It’s no surprise then, that when we asked over 500 drivers in the Driver Express survey what they preferred to hear on the road, fewer than a quarter said they simply preferred the peace and quiet.
The majority (53%) enjoy listening to their favourite radio station, with another 15% choosing to be their own DJs by streaming playlists. Podcasts (4.7%) and audiobooks (2.5%) made up the other audio options.
The drivers we surveyed were from various European countries, so when it comes to listening tastes, there’s a real interesting mix.
For drivers in England, talk radio stations like BBC, LBC and Talksport are very popular. In France, Los 40 Principles and NRJ are favourites. Drivers in Spain prefer to stay informed by tuning into news stations. Of the radio stations that focus on music, Classic FM, Radio Melody and RTL are big hits.
So, what kinds of music are drivers singing along to on their delivery routes? As you might have guessed, pop music is on the list. The classics from the ‘80s and ‘90s era are still being belted out. Latin artists RBD, Paulina Rubio and Danna Paola are favourites for Spanish speaking drivers.
Hard, rock, techno and deep house are listened to by drivers who prefer intense beats, and at the other end of the scale, some drivers appreciate the more calming tones of classical and jazz music.
With delivery drivers coming from nations that speak five different languages and encompassing a diverse blend of cultures, it’s interesting to see musical genres like afrobeat, reggaeton, bachata and French chanson also listed.

Many drivers are multilingual, respondents from various countries mentioned enjoying music in their native language, including Punjabi, Somali and Hindi songs.

When it comes to podcasts, politics and true crime were the themes that got drivers engrossed. Whilst some enjoyed the twists and turns of a political thriller in spoken audiobook form.

What will you be listening to on your next delivery? Maybe some of these sounds have inspired you to mix up your playlist?
